Rest 2/12

Another slack day. Well, I did walk around a bit, but that probably just added up to a few miles. Tomorrow, I must run!!

Rest 2/11

  • I looked into running with a local club, but the one I found is insane, running at 7 am! I'm still jet lagged so that would feel like 4 am to me... I'll just go on my own somewhere.

  • I talked to a coworker who is an avid cyclist and triathlete. He said this area is amazing for bike riding and triathlon - there are events all the time, from the end of February until October. While he was at it, he did a recruiting pitch for the Clermont Oly and also plugged the Florida Half Ironman, pointing out that two or three coworkers are planning on competing. ;)

  • I'm starting to pay more attention to Florida-related threads on TriNewbies Online - like this one, where the FL TNO people (of which there are many) are planning some rides.

    Rest 2/10

Didn't do much except fly from Seattle to Orlando!

    Rest 2/9

I just didn't have a chance to bike or run. I plan on taking my running gear with me to Orlando, and get in a run on Friday and Sunday.

I also just realized, if I do relocate, I'll need to pack my bike (probably the Trek) and take it with me. Shipping it will mean that I don't have it for weeks, possibly months! That would destroy my training.

    Swim 2/8

1000 yards: 800 yards with fist gloves (8x100) and 200 more without (2x100). Total time was 31 minutes.

I only did 1000 yards because my left inner elbow twinged with pain during my stroke, after I took the fist gloves off. I'm not sure what it is, maybe I need to relax more and not stroke as hard. Anyway, I ultimately decided not to aggravate anything and just stop.

    Week 5

    Jan 31 - Feb 6
    Time
    Swim 0:44
    Bike 5:15
    Run 1:42
    Strength 0:45
    Weight 140.6 lb
    Body Fat 16.4%

I'm likely to be a bit inconsistent over the next few weeks... I'll try to get 2 good bikes, 1 good run, and 1 good swim in, at the minimum.

    Bike 2/6

Today I rode with some friends - 47.5 miles in approx 3:20. I don't have the exact mileage or time as I used the forerunner, but forgot to turn it on for one segment of the ride.

Anyway, this bike ride was... an adventure to say the least.

  • I learned I need to get some waterproof gloves and/or a warmer glove situation. By the end of the ride my fingers were really numb. So were my toes, but I can experiment wearing a second pair of socks. The good news is the ergonomic saddle is really working out - I'm not really stiff or sore at all, at that point of contact with the bike. ;)

  • As far as what it means for IM, I'm not sure. 47.5 miles in 3:20 works out to 112 miles in about 7:51, which does in fact make the bike cutoff time. The conditions we had would be widely regarded as poor - but I'm not sure if biking in the heat or wind would be easier. Since I still have nearly four months left, there is time, and this ride can be viewed as a positive.

  • Towards the end of the ride T2 pulled up beside me and I said "we'd hope for better conditions during the event!", and T2 replied "this ride tells me I'm not at all ready". But I think the conditions won't be this lousy - it may rain, but it surely will be warmer than the high 30's or low 40's.

  • This ride makes me think that maybe I don't need to do Chilly Hilly after all. I did it two years ago and it was fun, but we had really good weather. Heck, I can just do two loops around Lake Sammamish.

  • My bike is encrusted with about 70 miles of crud from the weekend. I need to clean my bike tomorrow.
