Bike 2/26

Well, I just couldn't restrain myself - the weather was so nice, I decided to try a 50 mile bike ride. It ended up being slighly longer: 52.2 miles in 3:44. I did my basic loop plus an out-and-back along the SRT/BG to 25th Ave in the U District.

I'll stretch in a minute, and then I suppose tomorrow during Chilly Hilly I'll find out if I overdid it. ;) I'm debating something very important: the appropriate treat for myself. A milkshake sounds pretty good, but on the other hand, I am a bit cold so perhaps a nice hot cafe mocha will hit the spot. :)

Bike 2/25

Just an easy 30 minutes on the trainer, while watching Sex and the City: Season 6 Episode 1. I spun in the 39x15, at 80W, keeping my cadence around 85, which resulted in a speed around 16.5 mph.

Rest 2/24

I decided to rest my toe, just to make sure it is better.

I also checked the GB plan - I am on schedule, relatively speaking. This week's long bike ride is supposed to be 4:00 to 4:30. Since I want to do Chilly Hilly on Sunday, and that will take around 2:30, I just need to get in some good rides on Friday or Saturday or both. Yeah, I probably won't get one ride of that length (timewise) in, but for Chilly Hilly I think I can make an exception and get in several rides.

I'm all about flexibility in the training schedule. ;)

Weekend Bike Rides

This weekend is Chilly Hilly, a fun hilly ride around Bainbridge Island. I'm planning on doing it with some friends - we the survivors of the infamous rainy bike ride - and JHS who will join us this time.

If Chilly Hilly weren't on Sunday, I'd take advantage of the perfect weather and try for a 60 or 70 mile ride on Saturday. But then I'd probably be tired for Chilly Hilly.

One possibility is doing 50 miles on Saturday, and then the 33 of Chilly Hilly on Sunday. Or, a shorter ride Saturday, and two loops of Chilly Hilly - possibly shortcutting the second loop by 12 or so miles. Or, just going bananas on Saturday and hanging on for dear life on Sunday, and resting Monday and Tuesday. :)

T2 and I have been exchanging emails, trying to plan out some workouts on the weekend. I realize I'm probably freaking out and piling on bike workouts for several reasons:

  1. I missed around a week of biking due to a trip to Florida.
  2. My toe hurt; over the weekend I didn't do anything. I haven't run for a week.
  3. I can't swim this week because it is mid-winter break, and the high school pool I swim at is closed.
  4. The weather has been amazing; it seems like a shame to "waste" it.

So the result is I'm trying to get whatever biking in I can. I haven't looked at the training plan lately. I need to check it and see where I'm supposed to be. Maybe I'm getting anxious over nothing.

Bike 2/23

It was another beautiful day. The high pressure system that is hovering over Seattle is quite welcome - it is pushing away all the jet-stream clouds.

I rode 36.7 miles in 2:30. My route was a combo of my basic loop plus a loop around Lake Sammamish. Car traffic gets heavy through Issaquah, but I cross the major intersections as a pedestrian, so that wasn't any trouble. The rest of the ride was great.

Rest 2/22

Just took the day off. I was planning to swim but I remembered the high school I swim at (Juanita High School) is closed for mid-winter break!

Bike 2/21

I didn't get out to ride as early as I wanted, and my toe is still a bit sore, so I did 18.8 miles in 1:21. I rode an out-and-back from my house to the tunnel on the SRT, and threw in the 120th street hill for extra fun.

At least I did install the new bike computer I bought. It works great! It took me a while - I probably spent 20 or more minutes just trying to wrap the cable, and I'm still not satisfied.

I planned on more distance/time on the bike today. Perhaps this evening I'll get on the trainer and add another 1:10 to hit a total of 2:30 for today.

Week 7

Feb 14- Feb 20
Time
Swim 0:30
Bike 3:58
Run 0:44
Strength 0:0
Weight 141.8 lb
Body Fat 18.1 %

If I knew I were so close to 4 hours on the bike, I would have ridden an extra 2 minutes. ;) I'm trying to focus on the bike - had my toe been healthy, I would have put in another hour at least this week.

Rest 2/20

Toe still hurts... bizarre. I guess I did something to it when I last ran on Wednesday? I'll see how it feel tomorrow - I may be able to ride my bike, as that isn't weight bearing. But, if it is uncomfortable in any way to pedal, I'll rest.

I'd like to ride, as I have the day off and the weather will be nice.

UPDATE:

Not to freak out, but I looked up gout after Alexandra posted and reminded me of this. Wow, that does sound like what happened - sudden onset of pain in the big toe!

I'm not really eating much on the list of foods to avoid, so no changes there. And while I did have a beer when I went bowling with friends, I hardly think that set me over the uric acid limit... but who knows. ;) I guess I'll drink lots of extra water and take some ibuprofen over the next few days.

Rest 2/19

I was going to run this morning, but my left big toes hurts, right at the knuckle. I'm not sure what I did, but I am limping around slightly. Thus, I'm taking it easy!

I can't figure out what happened. The last time I ran was Wednesday, and I've just been biking or swimming since. Over the course of the day, the joint (at the ball of my foot) got more and more sensitive - it hurts to bend the toe. Weird. I guess I'll chalk this up to one of those weird injuries like when my shoulder suddenly acted up.
